DARIUS WARD, DAVE PETERSON, AND MIKE SCHULTE. WE HAD AN AUCTION IN JANUARY OF 2021 AND SOLD OFF EVERYTHING THAT WE COLLECTIVELY DID NOT WANT. EACH OF THE INVESTORS HAS THEIR OWN BUSINESSES THAT GLEANED FROM THE PURCHASE. JAMES COX SOLELY OWNES TEX TAN NOW. This strategic decision ensures these iconic brands will continue to flourish under the guidance of a trusted leader in the equestrian industry.
Desert Equestrian is renowned for its innovative designs and distinctive products that redefine the artistry and functionality of traditional horse grooming brushes. Combining sustainably sourced hardwood blocks, premium natural and synthetic fibers and traditional as well as exotic leathers, Desert Equestrian has set a new standard in quality and craftsmanship for the equestrian grooming industry.
Old West Brands is delighted to add Desert Equestrian to its prestigious portfolio, which already includes well-established names such as Brushy Creek Belt & Buckle, Wright-Bernet Brush, Moser Leather & Laces, Southern Saddlery & Supplies, Trammell Bits & Spurs, Simco, Longhorn, Circle C, and Monterrey Makers Brand of Saddles and strap goods. Effective immediately, all sales and distribution of Desert Equestrian products will be managed by Old West Brands.

We are excited for the new possibilities of expanding even further in the Brush business!
This also coordinates with our recent purchase of the entire grooming division of Circle ‘Y’, and sale of our Tex Tan brand to Circle ‘Y’ in the process. There are many special products that we will be selling and continuing with through that acquisition as well.

Sale of Simco Trademark
Old West Brands sold the Simco Trademark to Tim Kleptz of the Equine Company in early August of 2025. Tim currently owns Tennessee Saddlery and other brands. We felt this was a good fit for the brand to move it forward and give it the recognition that it deserves. Tim mainly does retail sales online and at shows. For more information call 937-510-5810.
Sale of Brush Creek
Old West also sold Brushy Creek Belt and Buckle to Gingerich Leather of Lagrange, Indiana in Early October of 2025.
We felt this was a great fit for this line. It is hard to maintain the 110 assorted designs that Brushy manufactures as well as the rifle sling department. Tim has great resources in the Amish community to make this happen and is already manufacturing several lines of belts for the industry. For more information call Tim at 260-768-7074.
Acquisition of Texas Leather Mfg. Brand.
Old West will continue to manufacture some belts and accessories under the Texas Leather Mfg. brand that was acquired during the liquidation of that company that we had an auction for in Honey Grove, Texas in the spring of 2025. The Texas line is a small line and with the crafters we have in our area, this is a better fit for Old West. It also allows us to focus on manufacturing our brush line, which has taken off in so many directions. Old West purchased Desert Equestrian from Summerland Brush Co., which was a spinoff of the old Wright-Bernet that we already owned. A previous owner of Wright-Bernet started this company and for years they were competitors. Now we bring Desert Equestrian back to Hamilton, Ohio as well, and we are making most of the brushes here and at our two sister plants. One in the UK, and one in Sri Lanka. We sell to distributors and dealers. We still have our other lines of saddles and tack including Longhorn, Southern Saddlery, Circle 'C' and Monterrey Makers brand of saddles and distributing for Abetta, Trammel Bits and Spurs, Moser Leather and Laces and Southern Saddlery and Supplies for Glue, Hardware, Fleece, etc. More than enough to keep us busy, not to mention the auctions we host all over the country!
